A member asked:

I cannot take zithromax, but i have taken another macrolide several times in the last few years (clarithromycin)?

Not uncommon: There are many people who are not allergic to a class of medications, but tolerate some macrolides better than others.

Call the doc: There are options when it comes to treating an infection. Indeed, azithromycin and clarithromycin are quite similar. It's too bad you've had trouble with the azithromycin - there are other forms (such as a suspension) if it's the large size of the pills that bothers you. The clarithromycin should work just fine too - so I would call the prescribing doc for assistance.
