Sleep deprivation: If i understand your question correctly the best way to enhance the yield on an eeg is to perform it sleep deprived- meaning you try to deprive yourself of sleep the evening before the test and then take the test first thing in the morning. Another approach is to do an ambulatory eeg which you wear for 48-72 hours continuously and you sleep in your own bed. I hope this helps. Take care.
