could everyone have some degree of autism?

No: While everyone may have a symptom that is used to classify and diagnose autism, true autism is a constellation of a number of these symptoms in different areas. For instance, excessive thirst can be a symptom of diabetes, but not everyone who has the symptom of excessive thirst has diabetes.Similarly, "one" symptom or quirky behavior or social awkwardness or speech delay alone does not autism make.
