Depends on the: Psychiatrist and their own comfort level narcotic prescribing. Some psychiatrists work specifically with pain or have a great deal of experience in treating pain or addiction and may be comfortable, others may not. Just depends on the physician.

Agree w Dr Kent: Some psychiatrists deal with pain extensively in their practice and others elect not to. For instance - I do not prescribe narcotics for my pain patients. I do however, offer acupuncture to them.
