Yes: Very often, psychiatrists have to resort to meds to help taking care of uncontrollable behaviors like constant screaming in severe cognitively impaired patients. Reassurance, thorough medical work up, environmental interventions and search for the ultimate cause is very important too. Ask your dr, psychiatrists will help a lot. Good luck.

Insure that the : Psychiatrist sees teens or children. I work for the department of the navy. I am a general psychiatrist and am only allowed to see people who are under 18 years old if they are on active duty or if it overseas (and there is no child psychiatrist). In this type of situation, the psychiatrist would need to insure that medication is appropriate. Team tx approach may be preferable.
