Not always: A spinal tumor can only be seen on an x-ray if it destroys bone or contains calcium. This is usually not the case. An MRI is usually the best way to image the spinal cord and nerves in the spine.

It depends: Plane x-rays of the spine may not show a tumor but they can show the vertebrae especially if there is a collapse caused by a tumor. The best test to see a tumor of the spine would be a MRI scan.
