No.: You can be totally healthy and have great weight while still having gluten in the diet. Would it hurt to try a gluten free diet? Other than the pain in your pocketbook (it's expensive), you'll probably be fine. If you have things like bloating, belly pains, gas, diarrhea, and you think you have gluten sensitivity, that's a different matter and you should see your doctor. Good luck!

Caloric restriction: Gluten free diet by itself will not cause weight loss unless you reduce your caloric intake and increase catabolism by exercise. You can lose as much weight as you wish, depending on the redcution in your caloric balance.

Gluten free diet: I see patients frequently lose weight when they give up gluten, especially if they still to real unprocessed foods instead of using gluten-free substitutions for breads, cakes, cookies, pastas, etc.

No: Weight loss is the result of having negative caloric balance, by either reducing your intake or increasing catabolism by exercise, preferably both. Gluten free diet by itself will not help in losing weight if you do not reduce your intake. See this site for more info.
