I don't have back pain but have a single vertebra that hurts when pressed like when i sit down with a hard backrest or when lying down. why is that?

Back pain: It's still back pain whether it is localized or generalized.
It's hard to tell why it hurts as not enough information was provided. A thorough history and exam is needed to start. Perhaps you will need an xray unless the doc is able to pinpoint the problem after an office visit.
