Gravity: When legs are down gravity pulls the water down and it pools in your legs. When you lay down it re-distributes in your body. At night when asleep your kidneys frequently filter better as there is more blood flow to them when less to muscles, etc at rest and it helps to clear fluid from the body. Answer is less fluid intake and less salt intake, not more diuretic as they are hard on kidneys!
