Depends : Whether or not your jaws are wired together or not will depend upon what surgical procedure your surgeon will perform for you and his or her preference for fixation. Many patients may have rigid fixation with bone plates and/or screws and not have the jaws wired together, while other patients may require fixation with the jaws wired together. You should discuss this with your surgeon.

Ask your surgeon: These are good questions but, they can best be answered by the treating surgeon. If you aren't comfortable asking or don't get good answers, think hard before going for surgery. The operative plan depends on the specifics of your issues and what the treatment goals are.
