Corneal thickness: Ectasia is not common unless the cornea is thin. Ask your lasik surgeon if your corneal thickness is normal after lasik. If so, and you don't rub your eyes, the risk is low. Eye rubbing may increase the risk of ectasia.

Rare: Ectasia is a serious but rare complication of lasik surgery. Although the exact cause is not known, there are certain risk factors that pre-dispose to the development of ectasia. Ask your surgeon if you had any of these. If you did not have any of these, your chances of developing it are very small. If your vision is good at this point, relax a bit and enjoy your better vision.

Post LASIK ectasia: Today the incidence of post lasik ectasia in well--trained hands is quite low. There are several factors that are considered when evaluating a pt on the spectrum of possible future ectasia, i.E flap depth, ablation depth, residual stroma bed, young pt age, and preop measurements looking at cornea steepness, regularity, and stability using topography or scheimflug photog. ; refraction.
