Probably not long : Baby girls can have a mini-period due to mom's cranked-up hormones during pregnancy. They can also have what seem like firm, raised breasts and sometimes a little milky discharge for the same reason. Best thing is to keep an eye on things, and call the pediatrician in the meantime to see if he'd like to see her. Congrats on your granddaughter!

Vaginal bleeding: Newborns have mom's estrogen in their system. That's why they have little breast buds, vaginal discharge, and oily skin on their face, even acne. When the estrogen level starts to decrease, after birth, babies can have withdrawal bleeding (why you get a period, on the break week of birth control pills). It only lasts a day, or so. If the blood is from the rectum, call your pediatrician.
