Do you Clench jaw?: Your temporal muscle is used to clench the jaw. Some time it goes into spasm. Usually this is from clenching teeth unconsciously under stress or just really focused on something. For me it's mowing the lawn. It my mean there is a problem with your jaw called tmj. Grinding teeth in sleep also contributes. Short sharp pain is usually ( not always) muscle spasm. See doc if persistent problem.

EpisodicTension Type: Headache. More muscle tenderness has been found in patients with episodic TTH than in non-headache controls. However, it is not unusual for patients with TTH to experience stubbing pain in the temples. See an orofacial pain or headache specialist for evaluation.
