Ventolin Syrup....??: Ventolin is med. For asthma. Comes in solution for neb. Machine, mdi, ; syrup. Very rarely syr. Is used now, bc dose has to be high, more side effects (racing heart, tremor, etc) than specific benefit of bronchodialtation. Your son has not been diagnosed with asthma, then 'why ventolin'? Put saline nose drop and suck mucus with bulb syringe, use humidifier, keep room temp. 70 f; get 2nd. Opinion.

MUCOLYTIC: The thick mucous is inflammation in a small airway. Ventolin makes the airway bigger , but does not break up the mucous. Consider mucus agents like mucomist nebs and some steroids.
