A member asked:

Can someone explain to me how come it is difficult to develop a vaccine against hiv?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mutations : One of the reasons why it's been difficult to develop an HIV vaccine is because the virus mutates. The research surrounding the development of a new vaccine is extensive, and not only can it take years, but it's also extremely expensive. A vaccine manufacturer has to be sure that the vaccine will work against a stable virus, and HIV is anything but.
