A member asked:

Please tell me what animals are hiv vaccines/therapies tested on?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Monkeys / Apes.: Animals are used in trying to develop vaccines for hiv/aids. It is primarily macaques that are used. Smaller experimental animals such as mice, guinea pigs and rabbits are not susceptible to these infections. Chimpanzees and gibbons have also been used in some cases as they are the animals that are most susceptible to hiv.
