Alternative healers: Yes. First, don't give up. Second, there are many alternative modalities that work quite well--acupuncture, massage, yoga, osteopathic manipulation, etc. A lot of it has to do with how well you are able to communicate with the healer or doctor, which then allows you more effectively to utilize your own healing capability.

Alternatives: I might suggest a chiropractor, massage therapist, or accupuncture before going to a (faith) healer.

Probably: Much of treatment for pain and inflammation is non pharmaceutical ( stretching, positive thinking, exercise, relaxation, heat, massage, etc). And don't forget the placebo effect! But beware of snake oils sold by practitioners who personally profit. Check the website : http://nccih.nih.org to see what really works and what is bogus.
