Water Pik: The water pik is excellent for cleaning teeth. It creates a turbulent force around the neck or gum line of the tooth. Use caution on the angle of the water tip. It should be 90 degrees to the gum line. Pulsating the water jet "into"where the gum meets the tooth at a 45 degree angle will eventually cause pain and gum inflammation . Have your dental hygienist demonstrate.

Great aid: It does an excellent job getting into hard to reach areas. Try the lowest setting and work your way up from there. You may have sensitive teeth, try using toothpaste for sensitive teeth for awhile first. Talk to your dentist.

Signal: If it hurts it's a signal that you have a periodontal (gum) problem. Water pik's are a marvelous adjunct to dental health, reducing inflammation, removing food debris, toning up gum tissue, and disrupting harmful bacterial plaque. First, use a lower setting, less force. Second, have your teeth/gums examined for gum disease, preferably by a periodontist, a gum specialist. Ask dentist to refer.

Excellent: Be sure to start with the lowest setting. See your Dentist to make sure there are no underlying problems which might be worsened by the use of this. If so, get them corrected before continuing. Experience and gentle care and approach will usually correct the soreness, if all else is healthy. Bring it in to Dental Hygienist for instructions in use if needed. Good Luck.
