Failing crown?: This sounds like at least 2 problems. Something is not right with your bite, so you're chipping a tooth, and this will spread to other teeth. Your gums can be inflamed because of bacteria. If you have a crown on this tooth, then it would likely be that the shape of the crown is inappropriate and the margins (the seam b/w tooth and crown) are not properly contoured and sealed. See a dentist.
