See a dentist: Your problem sounds like a TMJ issue. Difficulty in fully opening your jaw suggests inflammation of one or both jaw joints, possibly from clenching your teeth (bruxism). A dentist can show you exercises to perform to help strengthen the joint capsules. Meanwhile, moist heat over the joints, advil (ibuprofen) every 4 hrs for three days and avoiding opening widely will help symptoms.

A dentist: For a simple and short term issue as you describe it, almost any dentist can offer some advice and palliative treatment measures. For more extensive and chronic cases, find a dentist who has extensive training and experience treating patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunction (commonly referred to as tmj.

Jaw: most often its a TMJ issue, however presence of infection or soreness from chewing ie too much gum, may lead to pain.. then there is also pathology, which is low down on the differential diagnosis list... go see your dentist to findout why
