My jaw is locked, do i need to see the doctor or dentist?

Dentist: See a dentist who has extensive training and experience treating patients with tmd\tmjoint problems. Your general dentist can probably refer you to one.

Oral surgeon: Most oral surgeons have experience treating TMJ issues.

Dentist: May need to see Orthodontist or Oral Surgeon. Jaw locking means disk in joint is out of position. To fix the problem may require extensive treatment.

Oral surgeon: See an oral surgeon. The problem lies in the jaw joint (TMJ). Could be open or closed locking. He/she can diagnose and treat the problem.
