Alcohol side effects: Alcohol is a drug with many side effects. At low doses it causes sedation, dizziness, and can have withdrawal at night leading to waking up in the middle of the night with bad dreams. This is a relase of the dream suppression that occurs while under the influence. Higher doses can cause blackouts, tremors, liver disease and eventual death. Use with caution.

Try experiment...: Alcohol could definitely contribute to nightmares. Try stopping alcohol intake and see if nightmares go away or lessen. That being said, if you are a very heavy, chronic user of alcohol, do not abruptly stop your alcohol intake. It could be dangerous. If you fall into this category, seek help.
