Depends: Many of my patients have told me over the years that they are experiencing suicidal thoughts. This may be a normal part of a clinical depression. Deciding whether to hospitalize a patient is not dependent only on their thoughts, but rather a history of suicidal behavior, and how likely we believe there is an imminent risk of harm. In my practice, i treat them more intensely.

Hard to say: Having suicidal ideation alone is not a reason for being committed to a psychiatric hospital. If however you have a plan and an imminent intent then the doctor would consider it in your best interest to be hospitalized and i hope that you would also. Best wishes and i hope you're feeling better soon. Please seek help.
