What does increased hepatic echogenicity mean on a ultrasound?

Fatty infiltration: Most commonly it means there is increased fat in the liver. This can be a result of increased body fat or may be associated with certain medications. Increased fat can also be seen in diabetics or in patients with cirrhosis.

It means the: liver looks brighter(increased echogenicity) than normal on US. Usually this is due to benign fatty infiltration, but there are other potential etiologies.
