Common choice: Your doctor made a choice that is very common. However, psychological therapy or counseling is also a 1st choice without side effects and with skill acquisition for living more comfortably in general. They can work together if necessary, but i'd try therapy first and add drugs if needed. Just my bias. Good luck.

Yes, it usually is: You may not see results immediately because Prozac (fluoxetine) works gradually , but it can work very well for social anxiety disorder. Try to give it at least 6 to 8 weeks at therapeutic doses.
