A member asked:

I have surgery i was told it would last 2 hours max 2.5 hours. untold the surgeon i don't want to be catheterized. i hear uti infections . can i refuse?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: You can ask, but chances are that the surgeon will likely recommend. One of the safety mechanisms in surgery is keeping patient well hydrated and hydration means urine production. Also, depending on where surgery is, may need catheter for visualization. Bladder does have capacity, and likely if it were solely 2 hours, you'd be fine, but talk with your doctor, tell him/her your fears and see
