Should be cultured: For streptococcal infection because of the sequelae, and tested for mononucleosis if strep negative and symptoms fail to resolve. Both will go away spontaneously, but not without leaving you feeling miserable for a while. Testing is easy and relatively accurate these days. If symptomatic for more than 3 days see your doctor. Let him/her decide to treat and ask if antibiotics are necessary.
