A member asked:

Is plavix (clopidogrel) still a first line treatment for those with stents(i have 2 in lad) or is effient now the drug of choice?

Clopidogrel: Clopidogrel (plavix) and Aspirin remain the primary treatment. Effient may be used if clopidogrel fails or if genetic testing indicates that clopidogrel may not be effective.

Alternatives: Prasugrel (Effient) and Ticagrelor (Brilinta) use have increased in recent years. There are differences in indications and dosing that you will need to discuss with your cardiologist. If you have taken Plavix (clopidogrel) safely, probably best to continue with it.
