Unknown: Doctors ? Interstitial cystitis (ic) cause ; #fibromyalgia association. Imo bladder spasms ; hyperactivity of pelvic parasympathetic nerves of autonomic nervous system, same nerves that stimulate irritable bowel syndrome, ; nerves course from spine ; sacrum. Sympathetic nerves ; ganglia parallel, but not contact, most of spinal column. Fibromyalgia cases with low back ; pelvic pain have ic ; ibs.

Multifactorial.: No one really knows. In fact ic is bladder pain in the absence of an identifiable cause. It is likely that there are a variety of things which contribute. Ic is sometimes known as bladder pain syndrome.
