Timing of action: Cromolyn works on certain, not all inflammatory cells to stabilize their surface and avoid release of chemicals of inflammation. It only works as a preventer of inflammation. Steroid works in all phases of inflammation and nearly all types of cells of inflammation so once there is symptom steroid works and cromolyn does not.
