Depends on Symptoms: It is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects the rib to the breastbone(sternum). It can cause sharp pain where your ribs and breastbone are joined by the soft cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis has been described like that of a heart attack, may have tenderness and pain with taking deep breath. Do not waste time trying to figure out, if persistent seek medical evaluation.
