Menthol: Your description is not specific for any specific robles but sometimes people with uncontrolled diabetes will note a sweet smell. Go see a regular doctor.

Do you smell it?: It has to be neurological. The symptom is similar to the phantosmia described in the article below. It is perhaps affecting different sensory modalities in you however. I would consult with a neurologist. En.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/phantosmia.
