Tell them directly: Get a quiet, private time with your parents and simply share with them what you're feeling -- along with your plans for getting help. At 38, you can get started with treatment. If they understand that you're not asking them to "fix it, " they'll be more able to be supportive of you as you get care for yourself. Some people are fearful of mental health issues and care, so do not be dismayed.
