Will going to the orthodontist mean you automatically get braces?

No: Orthodontists treat malrelationships of teeth and jaws, and provide dento-facial growth and development supervision. The orthodontist will determine if rx is indicated or not, and if so when to do rx, and what appliance would best address your needs.
