Does chemo therapy destroy bone marrow? how can i replenish it while still receiving treatments?

Depends on type: Certain chemotherapy affects the cells made in the bone marrow (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets). Other chemotherapy does not affect these cells significantly. There is nothing specific you can do as a patient to help replenish these cells after receiving chemotherapy. Sometimes transfusions of blood or platelets are given, if necessary.

Learn More: Different chemotherapy drugs have different side effects, or toxicities, on normal cells in the body. Rapidly dividing cells, like bone marrow cells, are often affected by chemotherapy. Talk with your doctor about your treatments and what side effects those drugs could have. Usually you want to let the drug effect occur for a few days before trying to stimulate bone marrow cell growth.
