Power and control: There are many facets of abuse; most revolve around power and control. Examples include coercion, threats, isolation, emotional abuse, and/or intimidation. Economic abuse is not uncommon where one party controls the other's access to money/resources. Children may be used as part of manipulation to inflict guilt, or control the partner. Minimizing, blaming, and denying the abuse are common.
