Dual question: The major complications of untreated strep are stopped if antibiotics are started by 9-10 days after first fever. An estimated 1/200 untreated strep cases will go on tho develop complications including rheumatic fever, heart, kidney and nervous system problems. Some strep cases will present with a specific rash, but most do not.The only way to confirm strep is through appropriate testing.

Tonsillitis: Is the general nae for inflammation of the tonsils and it can be viral or bacterial. The way to tell is typically with a throat culture to make sure it is not strep. If your child has not been seen, then i suggest being seen after three days and discussing when to start the antibiotics with your pediatrician.
