Retinal break: A macular hole is a type of detachment of the retinal in the center of the vision. Many are spontaneous and some related to trauma. It causes a lowering of the central acuity and commonly is progressive unless treated. Treatment is done by retinal surgeons , is somewhat complex but commonly can reverse the process.

Fixable problem: A macular hole represents an opening of the central vision area of the vision tissue (retina) that develops. It is usually associated with a decline in visual acuity and 'funny' "scrunched up" vision centrally. Having surgery to repair the macular hole has greater than 90% success rate, and the vision is usually dramatically improved compared to be fore surgery, but not as good as it was.
