Ankle Sprain: Ligaments and tendons have longer healing times because they have poor blood supply, and are made of thick, fibrous tissues. Swelling may last for many months after a soft tissue injury. If it does not heal or you feel unstable, go to your podiatrist and have an MRI performed to see if the ligaments are ruptured. May require surgery to fix the ligaments.
