Event monitor: You are describing a symptom called palpitations. The subjective feeling of heart beating, racing, etc. The ekg only shows the rhythm at the time of the test. Cardiac event monitors ( holter monitor, continuous telemetry) follow the cardiac rhythm over a time period such as 7 or 30 days. They are used to identify intermittent cardiac arrhythmias.

24 hour holter : Not an unusual ed evaluation for paroxysmal svt. Call your doctor and request a 24 hour holter monitor. If your wife becomes very symptomatic in the meantime, meaning fainting, altered mentation, difficulty breathing, call 911 immedicately.
