See dentist: Earaches can sometimes be caused by a problem with the jaw or teeth. Pain can radiate to the ear from a damaged nerve of a tooth. Pain can also come from inflammation in the temporomandibular joint (or tmj). Get evaluated by your dentist and find out if wearing a night guard (if you have tmj) would help.

Eustachian tubes: If your sinuses are clear, and there is no evidence of infection, you may be allergic to something or have had a respiratory infection before your earache started. If the eustachian tubes are blocked, pressure on one side of the eardrum may be more or less than on the other side or fluid can build up in the middle ear causing discomfort. Decongestants may help. If you smoke, stop.
