Yes: Schizophrenia is common. Approximately 1.1% of the population or 2.2 million people in usa. As of 2013, there is no cure for schizophrenia so you would need medication for life, however there is always a possibility that a cure can be found in the future. Studies show the earlier schizophrenia is treated, the better the outcomes.

Sometimes: I would recommend you get in treatment with a good counselor and work with them in addition to your doctor to understand what if any diagnosis you have over time . Medications are tools (just like a shovel for digging a hole) they help is.Also excellent nutrition taking additives put of your diet and fish oil can help but meds maybe important tools over the long term.
