Some causes: Genetics due play a role, but in a small percentage. Environmental factors may be involved, such as exposure to viruses or malnutrition before birth, problems during birth, and psychosocial factors. Another cause is an imbalance in the brain involving the neurotransmitters Dopamine and glutamate, and possibly others, play a role in schizophrenia. More research is needed - still a lot of unknowns.
