For the most part: It is life long diagnosis . There is a study that suggest up to 10% of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia will be symptom free. Whether this was due to misdiagnosis or the course of illness not clear

Schizophrenia: This is not a diagnosis that can be "cured, " but it can be managed and go into remission. Some people may get to a point where meds and other therapy are not needed but this may only be for periods of time. Most stay on meds for life (even when symptoms are in remission) and many continue to receive other therapy during remission also.
