A member asked:

I have dilated la, hypokinesis, dilated mv and functional mr. when i exercise i have lvot obstruction (velocity 1 - 4.5) no hcm on mri. doc is stumped?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Need echocardiogram: Mri is not the best test to diagnose hcm. If you have outflow obstruction when the left ventricle becomes hyperdynamic (exercise), then you most likely have hcm. The other abnormalities are consistent with hcm. You need a good echocardiogram so that the thickness of the interventricular septum can be compared to the thickness of the left ventricle. There is also a genetic test that can confirm.
