Depends : If these are few and far between, then an over-the-counter antacid like Tums or Pepcid (famotidine) ac will work within an hour. However, if you have daily episodes of acid reflux, you are better of taking a medication such a Prilosec daily (which may take 1-2 days to take effect however).
