Is all protein like meats, seafood and chicken off limits during a gout flare up? i keep hearing conflicting answers. whats a person left to eat?

Gout: Avoid seafood, red meat, alcohol/red wine, hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) (type of blood pressure med). Obesity, Insulin resistance and HTN are risk factor for gout. There is no a simple answer to your question. Noticed i said "avoid" . Do everything in moderation.

Chicken better: Diet is more important to prevent flares, no to help during flares. During a flare cherries and copious water are good. Chicken is better than red meat.
