A member asked:

Depakote seems to have fallen out of favor since the a-typicals have been introduced -could a low dose of 500 help with restlessness without weight?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Too many types of : Restlessness in psychiatry to be able to answer this question for you. If you have restless leg syndrome that is treatable by its own set of medications. If you toss and turn night that is treatable by the same set of medications. If the antipsychotics are causing you to be restless, that is called an akathisia. That is treatable by the addition of other medications or by lowering the antipsychotic medication. If it is your psychiatric illness itself that is causing restlessness then i would suggest that you talk to your psychiatrist about that.Be aware that Depakote often comes with an approximate 20 pound weight gain itself, so it is not always by any means an answer to weight loss. Best wishes.
