I've been taking 500mg depakote twice daily since 1995. since march of 2022, whenever i take a dose, i have a mild petit mal seizure. i was off the depakote from october 2021 to march 2022. could i now be immune to depakote?

You did not say what u r takeing it for & all other meds you take. Go to Drugs.com & review/do an interaction check for other meds/ supplements you r taking. One does not become "immune" to most drugs. They may no loner work because you are taking other meds that affect the metabolism of Depakote. I would spend $ & go to uptodate.com and read about petite & discuss with prescribing Dr.

Have your doctor first check your Depakote serum level and see if you are within therapeutic range. If not, medication dosing needs an adjustment. If you are having true seizure activity, and are indeed in appropriate range, a second medication may be required. (Petit mal spells do not occur in adults, but perhaps you have complex partial seizures.) Work with an experienced neurologist.
