Hematocrit/PCV: This measures the volume of red blood cells in a blood specimen. The spun or centrifugal hct/pcv is directly measured rather than calculated. If the values are high you are considered to have polycythemia which can be either primary or secondary. This needs a detailed evaluation to determine the cause of excessive numbers of rbcs..
